Left or Right?

Ok everyone knows that in England you drive on the left side of the road – opposite of Canada. And I actually think that the English have it right and it makes more sense to drive on the left hand side.  This all came about because back in the Medieval day when people rode horses down the streets. When they saw someone else coming towards them, they would draw their sword in case it was an enemy – and yes the majority of people were right handed! Makes sense doesn’t it!

BUT HERE IS MY PROBLEM

 - When you drive you stay on the left

 - When I go into the tube station on the normal stairs it says stay to the left

BUT

- On the escalator down the tube and in all the schools I have worked at they make us STAY TO THE RIGHT!

So my question is: When I am walking down the street do I stay to the left or the right of the sidewalk?

The Name

My blog needs a name! I am sorry for using so many dashes in the URL (especially sorry to those of you who had to send me emails via my Hotmail account back in the day). But as I am like the last person to start a blog, all the good simple ways to write “Taking the Long Way Around” were taken.

While I was creating this blog, this was the first line that popped into my head (The Long Way Around by the Dixie Chicks). I think it sums up my life pretty well.*

In the last five years I have graduated four times from two different universities, lived in three different cities, lived in two different basements, and then with my Dad, and even had a full time job. And now as my friends graduate (from their Masters and PhDs), get “grown up” jobs, buy houses, get married, and have kids – I pack two suitcases and move into a little bedsit in a foreign city to work at a different place everyday and spend my money on travelling the world (and Thai takeout).

So I am taking the long way around on life AND I am loving it!

Getting Started

I follow some of my friend’s blogs and the main topic they write about is that they are horrible bloggers and do not post enough. Well I have them beat – it is taken me five months of living abroad to just MAKE a blog!

I decided I needed to bite the bullet and finally create a blog, as over the last week I have been getting letters from good friends with updates of their lives and them asking “What the h** is happening in London Laura?” Hopefully this blog will help people get an idea of my London life and help me stay connected to you all a little better.

Also a small town girl living in Central London, who is also a first year teacher teaching in inner city London schools – of course you want to hear my stories!

I promise to make up for lost time and give you a thorough back track of past months in London, along with new updates and of course random London facts!
